What is Love ?

Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."

A new hope !!

Every day we wake up
breathing,
our hearts beating,
our souls thrumming,
another blessing,
a gift from God.
What thoughts do we think?
Do we praise Him?
Curse Him?
Feel apathy?
I hope I always feel blessed,
feel joy,
feel sorrow,
feel pain,
feel alive,
FEEL.
I hope I remember every morning is:
a new chance,
a new hope,
a new dream,
LIFE.

A Few Quotes ..

Happiness keeps u Sweet, Trials keep u Strong, Sorrow keeps u Human, Failure Keeps u Humble, Success keeps u Glowing, and God Keeps u Going

Do not fear going forward slowly; fear only to stand still

The days are long, but the years are short

To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved

Well-timed silence has more eloquence than speech

Somewhere over the rainbow

Somewhere, over the rainbow, way up high.
There's a land that I heard of Once in a lullaby.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are blue.
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.
Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops, Away above the chimney tops.
That's where you'll find me.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, bluebirds fly. Birds fly over the rainbow,
Why then - oh, why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow,
Why, oh, why can't I?

Impact of diversification in/on life

Diversification is the most basic fundamental of investments. At least that’s what I have learnt in the last two years. But does this funda apply to our lives as well. Should we diversify in life as well? If yes, how much and why? If no, then why not? Is life different from investments? Do we invest in relations in life expecting some return? These are some of the questions that popped up in my mind while sitting through those n number of lectures that dealt with “Diversification”.

1. Why do we diversify?
So that when some stocks do bad, those which are doing well can continue to improve our returns (Please correct me if I am wrong on this very basic thing :P)

Analogy with life:
When some relations go bad, there are others that can continue to be there for you.

Inference:
Be friends with more people, so that when a few cheat/ betray/ leave you, you can rely on the others you had invested in. The amount of investment may vary. You may invest more in those which look more lucrative to you right now but do invest some in others as well.

2. How much do we diversify?
We have learnt that diversification helps only to an extent. Diversifying too much doesn’t really help.

Analogy with life:
Diversifying too much would lead to no use here also. As that would thin out the investment so much that it would be of no use. Just like in the world of finance, there is a limited energy / time / affection / care you have with you to invest.

Inference:
So choose the best assets as per your current knowledge and invest in them. They may turn out bad in future. There may be Satyams in life but then that’s what Life is all about!! But since you diversified you still would have good assets with you, the ones you can continue to cherish for the rest of your life.

3. Is it good to divest bad assets?
Yes, there is no point continuing making losses. As soon as you realize that the investment is a sunk investment and cannot be recovered, one should divest quickly. Those who do it on time, win. Just like Lazard in Satyam’s case.
Analogy with life:
It is better to stop bothering about relations which are sunk investments and move ahead in life.

Inference:
It is better to use the resources (herein referred to the time, energy, love, care one has for others) to invest in newer assets which still have a chance to give you some returns compared to these ailing assets. Who doesnt make a bad investment? If you did, there is nothing wrong with it. But realize on time.

I have some thoughts on how life has analogy with both stocks and derivatives but yet to frame them ..

So watch out for this column to read about it in a few days.
